Man Sentenced to Seven Years for Trafficking Crack Cocaine
October 23, 2024
On Oct. 21, Ramell Spencer, 31, pled guilty to charges of trafficking crack cocaine and two counts of distribution of crack cocaine. The Honorable Robert E. Hood sentenced Spencer to seven years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
The City of Columbia Police Department (CPD) conducted an investigation that uncovered substantial evidence of Spencer’s drug sales in the Greene Street area on at least three separate occasions. After issuing arrest warrants on Nov. 8, 2023, Spencer attempted to evade law enforcement, leading officers on a foot chase. During this pursuit, he discarded approximately 16 grams of crack cocaine and 23 grams of cocaine, all of which officers recovered upon his apprehension shortly after.
Investigator Jonnise Pierce from the City of Columbia Organized Crime and Narcotics Unit led the investigation. The Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, represented by Assistant Solicitor Nicolas “Nick” Fowler, prosecuted the case.
CPD and the Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office continue to collaborate to combat drug trafficking in the community, reinforcing its commitment to public safety.
