Kershaw County Man Convicted of Criminal Sexual Conduct of a Minor 2nd Degree

The Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office announced that on Thursday, October 3, 2019, a Kershaw County jury found Jonathan William Ray guilty of Criminal Sexual Conduct of a Minor 2nd Degree after a three-day trial.
The case was presented to the jury that during May 2017, the defendant, who was 22 years old at the time, engaged in sexual intercourse with a 13 year-old girl. This occurred at the home of the girl’s grandfather in the Cassatt area of Kershaw County. The victim was visiting with her grandfather and other family at the time of the incident. Jonathan Ray, an acquaintance of the family, had been living in the Cassatt home for some time prior to the girl’s arrival. The crime was not reported until March 2018. Investigators with the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation that led to the arrest of Jonathan Ray.
Deputy Solicitor Curtis Pauling and Assistant Solicitor Donna Green represented the State. The Honorable G. Thomas Cooper, Jr. presided and sentenced Ray to an eight (8) year sentence.
