Joseph Annadale, 34, pled guilty to possession of a weapon by an inmate and possession of contraband while incarcerated. The Honorable Milton G. Kimpson sentenced him to three years to run consecutively with his current 18-year sentence at the Broad River Correctional Institution for burglary first-degree.

In October 2021, South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) investigators received intelligence suggesting that Annadale may have concealed homemade weapons in his cell, according to a separate law enforcement agency.

On Oct. 21, 2021, SCDC contraband officers searched Annadale’s cell and discovered two homemade weapons.

During the plea, an SCDC agent with the Office of the Inspector General emphasized the dangers posed by inmates possessing weapons and contraband inside the prison.

The Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, represented by Assistant Solicitor Nick Fowler, prosecuted the case.
