Richland County Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Burglary, Attempted Armed Robbery and Conspiracy
August 15, 2024
Christopher Cravets, 28, was convicted by a Richland County jury on Wednesday, Aug. 14, of Burglary 1st Degree, Attempted Armed Robbery, and Conspiracy in the shooting death of 41-year-old Delon Knack Summersett.
The jury heard testimony that on Nov. 25, 2019, the defendant and two additional individuals broke into Summersett’s home through a rear bedroom window with the intent to rob the victim. Summersett, asleep on the couch, woke up to the intruders. A struggle ensued, and a gunman shot the victim multiple times. A neighbor’s home security camera captured the perpetrators fleeing the area.
When law enforcement arrived, investigators discovered a fresh blood stain near the point of entry. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) later confirmed through DNA analysis that the blood belonged to Cravets.
The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Cravets in Conyers, Georgia, on Dec. 27, 2019. He confessed to Columbia Police Department investigators his involvement in the burglary and admitted to being the shooter in an additional statement.
The Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, represented by Assistant Solicitors Carter Potts and Nicolas Fowler, prosecuted the case. The Honorable Daniel Coble sentenced the defendant to life without the possibility of parole.
