Jury Finds Kershaw County Man Guilty in 2020 Murder
March 12, 2024
On Thursday, March 7, 2024, a Kershaw County jury convicted Cam’ron Ezekiel Hyatt for the January 15, 2020 murder of Thomas Keitt, Jr. A passerby notified law enforcement in the early morning hours that they had found Mr. Keitt’s body behind his white Cadillac sedan near the Sand Mines in the area of Green Hill Road. The evidence presented showed that Hyatt and a codefendant lured Mr. Keitt to this location early on January 15, 2020 where he was then shot twice in the head. The victim’s phone and wallet were missing from the scene, but cell phone records placed the Defendant’s phone near the area where the victim’s body was found. Those records also showed communications from Hyatt to Mr. Keitt’s phone just hours before his body was located. Additional text messages recovered from Hyatt’s phone showed conversations with two persons about disposing of the victim’s cell phone and wallet, removing shell casings from the scene, and getting rid of the alleged murder weapon. A latent fingerprint belonging to the defendant was also found on the victim’s vehicle as part of this investigation.
Hyatt, who was 17 years old at the time of the murder, is awaiting sentencing. The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office and SLED were responsible for investigating this murder. The case was prosecuted by Deputy Solicitor Curtis A. Pauling as well as Assistant Solicitors Donna M. Green and Michael T. Bradbury.
