– On April 11th, MADD SC awarded its first ever Barry Barnette DUI Prosecutor of the Year Award. The award was presented as part of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s 12th Annual SC DUI Enforcement Recognition and 2016 Law Enforcement DUI Challenge Ceremonies in Columbia.
The winner of the 2016 Barry Barnette DUI Prosecutor of the Year award is Josh Golson of the Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Mr. Golson has many years of experience in prosecuting DUI cases, many of them felony cases involving death or serious injury. Mr. Golson was honored for his outstanding work ethic not only in his preparation of each case, but in his proactive efforts to assist law enforcement and other prosecutors in practices that lead to stronger cases. He was also honored for his exemplary compassion for and communication with victims of impaired driving crashes.
“Our ability to dispose of these cases with such a positive outcome and a good success rate is largely due to Assistant Solicitor Golson’s work in this area,” said Solicitor Dan Johnson. "He is an asset to this office,” added Johnson.
MADD named the award after Seventh Circuit Solicitor Barry Barnette, who is well respected within the state for his passion for vigorous prosecution of DUI cases and the resources he makes available to officers and prosecutors across the state to assist them with related case law updates. The Seventh Judicial Circuit covers Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties.
